What is Green Energy and Green Instruments

Green energy is electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES), such as solar power plants, wind, and hydro energy.
It does not deplete natural resources and minimizes environmental harm.

Green energy instruments in Russia confirm that a certain volume of electricity is generated at RES facilities.
They are used for reporting, marketing, and ESG compliance, enhancing companies' reputation in both the Russian and international markets.

Why the Eco-Transition is Necessary

Environmental Protection

Transitioning to eco-electricity reduces CO₂ emissions, protecting the atmosphere, soil, and water bodies from the impacts of thermal power generation.

Combating Climate Change through Green Tariffs

Join hundreds of millions of people and tens of thousands of organizations fighting global warming, which causes droughts and hurricanes. Green energy in 2025 helps reduce the carbon footprint.

Development of Renewable Sources

Support green energy in Russia by reducing the share of fossil fuels. This stimulates the growth of RES.
The Federal Law "On Electric Power Industry" grants generation attribute owners exclusive rights to inform the public about your green energy consumption. Information about eco-energy use can be included in non-financial reports, company informational materials, displayed on products, and used in advertising. Today, responsible consumption becomes an important competitive advantage in promoting goods and services both in Russia and internationally.

How to Purchase Green Instruments

Advantages of Purchase Agreements

  • Ability to acquire origin certificates for electricity produced at any period within their validity.
  • No binding to price zones, simplifying energy use in any region.
  • Protection against underdelivery if a power plant produces less electricity.
  • Flexibility: green certificates can be resold or partially redeemed, strengthening their financial utility.
  • Registration in the Generation Attributes Registry is optional — the producer can redeem certificates on your behalf.
Request project

Advantages of Bilateral Contracts

  • Priority supply of green energy certificates.
  • Actual energy supply and generation attribute delivery come from one generating facility.
  • No need for separate energy supply contracts, saving time and resources.
  • ESG reporting increases customer trust.

Advantages of Green Instruments
as Financial Assets

Supporting Eco-friendly Energy

Help finance the construction of solar and wind stations. Revenue from sales lowers the cost of green energy, making it more accessible. This accelerates the transition to renewables and reduces harmful emissions.

Exclusive Rights to Eco-friendliness

The company obtains generation attributes and the right to officially confirm the use of environmentally clean energy. This boosts reputation, aids ESG reporting, and attracts eco-conscious clients.

Liquidity

The green certificates trading scheme allows free trading, increasing profitability. Resell to others, redeem partially, or use in marketing — your choice.

Investment Appeal

Demonstrates the company’s commitment to sustainability, attracting investors seeking eco-friendly projects. This increases chances for funding and business growth. The value of green certificates is recouped through reputational benefits.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I incorporate certificate purchases into tenders and procurement procedures?

Yes, certificates can be part of tender or procurement conditions, especially for participation in international projects or ESG initiatives where environmental responsibility is crucial.

Can I buy certificates once without long-term commitments?

Yes, you can purchase either regularly or as a one-time transaction, depending on your company's goals (e.g., for annual reporting or a marketing campaign).

What is a green tariff and certificates in Russia and worldwide?

The green tariff in 2025 is a mechanism supporting RES, including green certificates confirming the ecological nature of energy. Globally, for example in the EU, green energy certificates are standardized (GO). In Russia, the 2025 system is evolving through the Generation Attributes Registry. More details are available in our article on green certificates.

How many certificates can I buy?

Unigreen Energy offers green certificates starting from 1000 kWh without restrictions, suitable for businesses of any scale.

Who regulates the circulation of green certificates in Russia?

According to the Russian Government Resolution No. 2359 dated December 28, 2023, the qualification process and registry management of generation attributes are entrusted to LLC "Energy Certification Center" (TsES), established by the "NP Market Council" Association. More information about TsES can be found on their official website: https://green-e-track.ru/.

What are generation attributes?

Generation attributes are legal rights certifying the production of green electricity at RES facilities, such as solar power plants, according to the Federal Law "On Electric Power Industry" (Federal Law No. 35-FZ). They are recorded in the Unified Generation Attributes Registry maintained by LLC "Energy Certification Center" (TsES). Attributes confirm the volume and ecological quality of energy, allowing companies to use them in ESG reports, marketing, and green tariff promotion. This right enables companies to claim environmentally friendly energy consumption, enhancing market reputation. Attributes included in green certificates can be transferred or sold to offset costs of RES.

What is green energy?

Electricity obtained from renewable sources that do not deplete upon use and do not harm the environment. They are registered in the Generation Attributes Registry and used in reporting.

What are RES and their types?

Renewable energy sources (RES) include solar, wind, hydro, and bioenergy facilities that generate green electricity. In Russia, solar plants and wind farms are actively developing. Green energy minimizes ecological harm and supports sustainable development. Green certificates confirm RES use.
